Introducing – MTB WEST:

As an avid mountain biker for over thirty-five years I finally decided to start up a little mountain biking brand here in Nederland, Colorado. Just doing tees and stickers for now – working up some socks and hats next. I’ve lived by and rode some of the most legendary single track in the western United States. Including Bellingham, Washington and neighboring British Columbia, nearly ALL of Oregon, Bay area California trails both South Bay and Marin County, Moab, Utah area and all over Colorado, where I’ve lived the last fifteen years – nine of which have been here in Nederland. So much amazing trail logged thus far, in such a beautiful part of the world. This was long overdue. Check out the Studio Montane Zone Etsy shop at this link and the logo below or reach out to us to find one in person here in Colorado.

OPERATION: BEER PHOTOGRAPHY:
Really getting to push my photography skills in my new roll as photographer and designer for Knotted Root Brewing in Nederland. Having fun with this weekly can release shoot. Playing with depth of field, lighting, etc.

JANUARY, 2024: Here’s some design and promo we did for a little hometown snowboard contest that came out of nowhere. Local friends and colleagues threw this thing together in one month. Such a fun event and great little small mountain town vibe. Good people. Good beer. Good times. Rad skiers and snowboarders. Watch out 2025!

This track David and I put together remotely during the pandemic – borne of the “Audio Speed Dating File Trading” sessions. David Moeggenberg, Guitar. Eric Keeney, Bass.

Today I am filled with gratitude as I’m steadily working on multiple projects for my three main clients that keep the lights on and the animals of the rancho fed. Eldora Mountain Resort, Knotted Root Brewery and Stashlogix. Getting to flex creative muscle in all the disciplines for these guys – a perfect combination of graphic design, photography, video production and motion graphics. A big thank you to you all! Keep it coming!

As a full fledged music nerd, one of my hobbies is talking records with other nerds. This series I created called “3 Albums” has featured record store owners and managers so far – always with answers I didn’t expect. Been a huge learning experience for me since I LOVE getting turned on to new music. This episode was with Mikey at Black and Read Books and Records in Arvada, CO back in 2023.

Remember when those Bernie memes were the thing? Time flies. Here’s a throwback to when I made a few of my own Bernie memes, this one with the delightful Frank Zappa album cover “We’re Only in it for the Money”.  Nerd fact: Jimi Hendrix was actually at this photo shoot, despite possibly being a cut-n-paste like so many of the faces.

Originally released in 1968, the intended front cover of the album was a notorious parody of The Beatles Sargent Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band. At the insistence of the record company, the image had to become part of the gatefold sleeve instead of the cover, much to Zappa’s unhappiness. More recent releases of the album have seen the originally-intended artwork displayed as the cover – though not with Bernie. 🙂

Fun new design project I’m working on for our hometown of Nederland. Printed 11 x 17.

APRIL 2023: Studio Montane Zone is located on an elk migration path near the Indian Peaks Wilderness. These guys are part of what the Fish & Wildlife Department have named “The Caribou Herd”. We get to see lots of them each Spring and Fall. © 2023 photo by Eric Keeney

MARCH 2023: Promo for this year’s Trick Ditch Banked Slalom Race at Eldora. Love being a part of these events. Thanks Eldora! Get out there you guys! Race is the weekend after Spring Break in Colorado – on Saturday, April 1st. (photo by Cullen McHale)

FEB. 2023 – Paid a visit to my old stomping grounds up at Mt. Baker in Washington state. Also raced for the first time in the Legendary Banked Slalom. What a blast! Forgot how much I missed this place and these people. Here’s a few snapshots. Pictured here are legendary pros and former U.S. Olympians Rob Kingwill, and Seth Westcott.

JAN. 2023 – Here we go… the first episode in the “3 Albums” series – part of the larger “Good Things Come in Threes” project across multiple YouTube channels. Stay tuned for lots more of these – including album reviews, live music recordings, interviews, miniDV archives series… super-stoked on all things bubbling in Studio Montane Zone currently!

JAN. 2023 – Content creation since the day. Now – we’re launching several new YouTube channels, including a revived Beer City TV! If you’re a beer nerd, go visit our YouTube channel and subscribe at: @beercitytv

Stay tuned. Cheers!

DEC. 2022 – This is how we keep our sanity in this crazy life of work, family, animals, rancho, etc… mountain biking, snowboarding and backpacking. I have a modest goal of hitting 100k feet of vertical on the mountain bike each season, so I push through rides in November and December, even though the snow starts piling up. Thought it would be fun to share one.

Playing around with some “bad television reception” ideas on our logo. Yeah, we’re old enough to remember rabbit ears on the TV, trying to get that clear picture to watch Monty Python late at night on the weekends. 🙂 This is pretty much what it looked like when it wasn’t dialed in.

Dig this little design I did for the town (our hometown) – Nederland, Colorado. You can buy this design on t-shirts being sold at the Visitor’s Center in Ned right now – alongside some Frozen Dead Guy merch. I love our little Nederland!

We’ve also been busy working with Stashlogix in Boulder, Colorado. They design and engineer secure storage devices for the cannabis industry. Fun projects, another new industry for us! Here’s a little animated GIF we did for Stashlogix.

This was one of many on-mountain design projects for Eldora Mountain Resort up here in Nederland. We’ve been working with them for over four seasons now. First as their video producer, and currently as the on-mountain designer. Here’s a poster design in two sizes and social in two sizes – plus a 16 x 9 motion piece for the lodges. Stoked to race again this year too!

Music, photography and video is always a work in progress it seems. I like this photo quite a lot. Hi Jefi!
